The five major world religions – John Bellaimey

Explore the intertwined histories and cultures of the major religions: Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism, Christianity and Islam.

It’s perfectly human to grapple with questions, like ‘Where do we come from?’ and ‘How do I live a life of meaning?’ These existential questions are central to the five major world religions — and that’s not all that connects these faiths. John Bellaimey explains the intertwined histories and cultures of Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism, Christianity and Islam.

  1. As long as you look at top comments and not recent ones. This is one of the most civil comment sections I’ve ever seen

  2. Imagine, being a God, teaching people religion for peace, but we human use those teaching into the source of conflict.

  3. The Hinduism summary is totally wrong, it starts with RigVeda not Krishna, and goal is to unite with Brahman not Bramha 🙂

  4. I think you forgot of Sikhism as their total population around the world is 30 million. 70% of whom live in India.

  5. Hinduism is not a religion,it is an full of lie, their religion good thoughts are taken from buddhism and other small religions in ancient india.
Buddhism is born from hinduism not to support it but to stop hinduism madness thoughts and in ancient india at the time of ashoka rule buddhism was accepted by indians but at after ashoka hinduism (upper caste people) murdered countless buddhism monks and stolen the buddha thoughts.

  6. Hello! It is really a great effort to put all facts without any biasness.
But I would like to request you to please check how old Hinduism is. As the earlier incarnation of Vishnu which was Ram Avatar was atleast 7000 years ago. And Hinduism believes there were few even before that.
I whole heartedly appreciate your efforts, but would like if the Hinduism's origin is analysed again. Thank you team!

  7. 7:49 The message is true but there's something that needs to be included. Christ died in the cross in order for mankind (who are naturally sinful) to be reconciled with God. "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" Romans 6:23. Peace be with you all 😊🕊

  8. I’m really glad for this video it was really unbiased and peaceful, and I live for that lol
I’m a Muslim and I loved how the narrator was respectful on not showing the face of prophet muhammed (SAW)
    Peace ✌🏼

  9. So, if these are the fundamenals of each well-known path to Truth, why then evangelization, proselytization, conversion? Why should everyone think the same, be the same? This monomaniacal obsession to convert or kill is the reason for religious wars, tortures, genocides, injustices, terror, horror, societal turbulences, sorrow, sorrow, and more sorrow!

  11. I was researching the five major religions of the world for a historical school project.. So thank TED-Ed for the beautiful summary.

  12. Buddhism is the softest and most peaceful religion ( life philosophy) in the world. Buddhism is the most scientific and logical and rational ever I have seen in my life.

  13. All sacred messages are difficult to interpret for ordinary people, many even cause distortion to the message so it could benefit oneself. That caused suffering among those we were very faithful. Enlightenment is never reached by one person, it is always received from another one who is already enlightened. So for a person to receive such enlightenment, one has to have it in his or her destiny in order to meet such a person. A good way to increase the likely hood of having it in your destiny is to practice the commandments and carry it close in your hearts, slowly and surely your destiny will change with sincerity and great determination. Don't make illusions, reaching such nobility is of course difficult, however living with such a goal will end up with great value in life. No longer just flesh and bones, but a virtuous being. <3

  14. The Lord Buddha was born in 623 BC in the sacred area of Lumbini located in the Terai plains of southern Nepal, testified by the inscription on the pillar erected by the Mauryan Emperor Asoka in 249 BC.

  15. for you info putting this photos or art in the way that it represent islam is completely false
bcs we never saw an angel or god
in islam god is not he or she or dont even have a gender same for angels and we dont know their shapes or even if they have wings or not nothing like that were written in the hadith or quran

  16. What happens after you die? You're dead. You wither away and decompose. It's all transient. You want to spend mayfly years listening to what the Pope has to say? You should be biased; against all religions, near and far.
